Blue Velvet is excited to take part in NADA Miami 2024 with a solo presentation by London-based Swiss artist Marius Steiger who graduated from the MA Painting Programme at the Royal College of Art London in 2023. The fair marks Steiger’s debut in the US, following the strong response to his recent solo exhibitions in Switzerland, Italy, Norway, and the UK.

His practice offers a unique perspective on contemporary painting, merging realism, abstraction, and digital aesthetics to explore themes of artificiality, creation, and perception in the digital age. At the core of his work is a reinterpretation of the Vanitas still-life paintings. While Vanitas paintings historically depicted decay to symbolize life's transience, Steiger reimagines this concept by evoking an artificial stillness, a sort of freezing effect reminiscent of digital imagery. His paintings resist transience, capturing moments that feel both lifelike and synthetic. Through hyper-realistic details fused with flattened abstract forms, transforms his canvases into compositions that blur the boundaries between the real and the virtual. His work challenges viewers to reflect on visual consumption and reconsider the boundary between the subject and the medium itself.

Marius Steiger’s upcoming exhibitions include his second solo show with Blue Velvet in Zurich, Switzerland (March 2025) and his first institutional solo show at the Kunstraum Riehen in Basel (September 2025), as well as group presentations at the Kunsthaus Interlaken, Switzerland (December 2024) and the Rothschild & Co Bank in Zurich, Switzerland (February 2025). Furthermore, a large solo exhibition is anticipated to take place at Carl Kostyal's London gallery on Savile Row in early 2026.
